Client Success Story: Tina R.

“I need to lose weight and take care of my health,” she proclaimed. “With this new diagnosis of being pre-diabetic, I have to get my health in check for myself, my husband, and my 4 kids!” she said with apprehension and dismay. I nodded along with a smile and continued to listen. “I’ve never belonged to a gym, nor have I ever lifted weights. I’m not sure this is a good idea for me… but I’ll give it a try for two weeks and see what happens,” she said reluctantly, with a hint of anxiety.

Fast-forward, Tina has not only taken control of her diabetes, but she has seen tremendous weight loss (losing over 30 pounds of body fat).

She has gained strength and confidence that could make even the most experienced fitness enthusiast wonder how she did it in such a short time.

Tina’s story continues to inspire countless other adults in similar circumstances.

Tina, a mother of 4 grown children, spouse, and working to provide for her family, was in between a rock and a hard place when she first came in to meet with me in August 2022.

She had never worked out with weights before, and even being in a gym was slightly terrifying.

She almost walked out on a life-changing opportunity, and if you met Tina today, she would say the same thing.

We started with only three hours per week of dedicated efforts for her health and fitness, while she slowly monitored her food and nutrition.

Each day she showed up for herself was a win for her future self and her family. Day by day her consistency spoke volumes.

Week by week she became more and more comfortable with our workout protocol and the coaches themselves.

After one month, Tina was down 5+ pounds of body fat!

Now, at the time of this write-up, we’re close to celebrating Tina’s 2nd year as part of the Bent On Better community, and she’s down almost 30 pounds of body fat, AND she has added 2 pounds of lean healthy muscle that has helped rev her metabolism!

Although there was a rough start, and we’ve battled challenging life circumstances, including the loss of her beloved mother, Tina continues to persist for herself and her family.

She is now healthier and stronger than ever, setting the tone for her family and all that comes into her world.

Tina took her time, operating with eagerness and persistence.

She showed up 3 days per week, questioned a lot, and wasn’t sure she could do some of what we asked of her. In my eyes, she doubted herself…but more so, she doubted that she was going in the right direction.

The moment when she realized what she was doing was right for her was the best moment in her journey.

She realized that although she may not be where she expected she would be, I would venture to say she is even further along than she could have ever realized.

She went from the timid, unsure, apprehensive woman who wouldn’t dare lift any weight that was TOO hard to hold… to performing multiple reps with a trap bar with over 100lbs on it!

Oh, and Tina isn’t in her 20s or 30s… she’s in her 50s!

Tina has defied the odds, taking control of her condition, and now realizes that the ONLY limitations she has are within her mind.

She has proven to herself that she is capable, that she is determined, and that she is one strong mama! We’re so proud of you, Tina!
