Client Success Story: Megan F.

When Megan first came in, she was overwhelmed and unsure of how she would do within our program.

She hadn’t exercised in years and had gained a lot of weight over the last decade as a busy mom of two teenagers.

Spoiler Alert: Megan’s most recent InBody composition assessment shows that she hit a staggering 71 pounds of body fat lost in 1.5 years.

At Megan’s one-year anniversary, we celebrated her 40 lbs of fat lost and 100 completed workout sessions.

Megan found us two years prior to starting her own journey here. We worked with her son’s baseball team as their strength and conditioning program back in the day when we offered athlete training services.

I remember having multiple conversations with her about the safety of our program and the attention to detail we give each athlete (and adult).

Naturally, she was concerned due to the many unknown risks (and this was also during high alert post-pandemic times).

She mentioned she “may” check us out, too… but that was the end of that conversation until two years later: she booked a meeting with me.

“I’ve been thinking about doing it, and I just haven’t…” she said to me when I asked her what made her decide to come in.

“I’m in the worst shape I’ve ever been in and weigh more than I ever have, like, way more. The last time I weighed this much, I was nine months pregnant with my kid!” she went on.

“So now I just need to do something about it. I’ve seen your posts online, and I liked your vibe; everything is always just so positive, so I decided to finally just come in!”

In our meeting, while we talked about her goals and health history, I recall her saying things like, “I need to take care of myself now that my kids are more independent,” “I’ve gained a lot of weight over the years,” and “I want to make sure I’m doing the right exercises for me as a woman over 45 years old.”

As we continued to talk, I learned that Megan worked as a part-time school nurse, so health wasn’t a new topic for her.

But as I’ve seen for many years, even people in the medical field don’t always know how to apply what they know to themselves to see results, too!

She went on to tell me about how her husband, Jeff, was a routinely active guy, swimming regularly at ACAC West Chester.

She said although she knew she could get everything she might want at a gym like ACAC – where there are fitness classes and almost endless access to gym equipment—she knew she needed the personalized care and accountability that comes with our program.

Once we established that she had a target weight loss (fat loss) goal, we started planning.

Megan got started with only working out three days per week on our special offer at that time to get her first two weeks free.

At the end of the two weeks, when she said she was ready to continue, that was the moment she went “all in” for herself, and the true journey began.

Over the next few weeks and months, Megan would routinely check in on her progress with our state-of-the-art body composition machine so she could see the results as they happened.

This also helped her keep an even-keeled head about understanding when her weight would fluctuate.

We could see it wasn’t going up due to body fat; in fact, her body fat was going down, and her lean body mass was improving, which was helping her build her metabolic rate even higher!

Megan was the perfect student. She showed up ready to learn in each workout session.

She followed the instructions from the trainers, taking her fitness and strength journey slow and steady. After a couple of months, she started joining our accountability calls and became even more focused on herself.

She would ask questions, take notes, and implement them immediately.

She talked about walking more, consuming more protein (especially first thing in the morning), staying consistent, and working on improving her sleep.

Week by week, Megan showed up, missing a day or two due to illness or family schedule, but never letting it derail her. She didn’t start working out more and more to punish herself.

She kept her 3 training sessions per week, taking her time and being careful.

At her one-year anniversary with us, we celebrated all she had accomplished and asked for her secret, and what she said may surprise you: She said at some point earlier in her first few months, she decided to worry less about the scale and focus more on the couple of things we told her to focus on.

She told me that by just shifting her focus from “I need to lose weight,” to “I want to keep up my progress and learn more so I can do more toward my goals.”

There is no secret to weight loss (fat loss). It is all about your consistent efforts over time.

Time will pass either way, and whether you’re on this health and fitness journey for yourself or by yourself, it can be done if you have the mindset enough to do it, or as Dori would say, “just keep swimming…”

Eventually, with the right program and the right people supporting you when you feel lost, stuck, let down, or frustrated, it can make all the difference in your successful healthy weight management journey.
